Restoring the original GADEL
The original quotes category had 11 pages. The available successful 2013 snapshots do not cover every category page. Later archived category indexes and individual 2013 article captures are used to fill gaps where possible. A later index is not proof that the whole 2013 category has been recovered.
So far, 105 original collections have been recovered for review. This collection presents 105 collections of short selections. Recovery and attribution checks remain in progress.
A fresh recheck on 1 November 2026 found that the June 2013 captures for category pages 7 and 9 contain GADEL’s own “404 Not Found” page. Page 8 resolves to a 2015 listing. An archived error page is different from a temporary Archive outage; it does not contain the missing category listing.
Quotations need context
Many old web collections circulate sayings without primary references. We preserve the attribution found in GADEL’s archived collection, but label it as an archived attribution rather than verified authorship. A traditional or anonymous label does not establish a saying’s exact origin.
Titles may be shortened or made more respectful. Quoted wording is not rewritten and then passed off as another person’s words. Longer passages, modern poems, disputed material, and material needing further review are not automatically republished.
Complete library editions
The library offers full supplied editions with source credits and license notices. “Public domain” is different from “open source”, and copyright differs between countries. The editions below are listed as public domain in the USA; their original authors and named translators died more than 70 years ago.

Why C. S. Lewis is not in the full-text library yet
Some early Lewis texts have US public-domain editions, but a US listing does not settle rights for an operator in Ghana or for readers elsewhere. His later works, including the Narnia books and Mere Christianity, are not being copied here. They need a specific rights basis or permission before inclusion.
